Aside from recreational gambling, boozing, and cranking the slot machine lever, Atlantic City beach and the surrounding points offer ideal opportunities to bask in the sun and enjoy the natural environment -- as opposed to the highly air conditioned, fluorescent lit artifice of the casino. Surrounding piers provide fantastic boating, fishing, and jet skiing options and the New Jersey shore permits most standard beach sports to take place (provided you leave your dogs, camp fires, and glass bottles at home!), such as volleyball, kayaking, surfing, and professional or miniature golf for land lubbers and kiddies alike. If you're sick of shopping and fine dining and crave something more adventurous, surrounding South Jersey woodland areas are perfect for camping, hiking, and observing nature.
