The Jersey Shore offers absolutely fantastic opportunities to kayakers and canoers, with tons of beautiful scenery and all types of waters, from freshwater creeks and rivers to the Atlantic Ocean’s 130 miles of shoreline. Enjoy every manner of waterway from bogs, wetlands, wildlife preserves, and saltwater marshes, to canals, bays, creeks, and estuaries.

Recommended Kayaking Spots

The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge – The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, including Little Egg Harbor, Great Bay, and Nacote Creek, as well as Barnegat Bay, sheltered by the 18-mile strip of Long Beach Island. Rentals available in the towns of Barnegat and Tuckerton. Location: Great Creek Road, Oceanville, NJ. Phone: 609-652-1665

Cedar Creek – Cedar Creek, and Island Beach State Park, as well as Barneget Bay. Rentals available at the Cedar Creek Campground and in the towns of Bayville, Toms River, and Barnegat. Location: 1052 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ. Phone: 732-269-1413

Cape May Harbor – Cape May Harbor with its tidal creeks and shallow bays. Rentals available in Cape May, West Cape May, Wildwood, and Stone Harbor. Location: Harbor Ln, Bayville, Cape May, NJ

Pinelands National Reserve – Pine Barrens in the Pinelands National Reserve is a 1.1-million-acre wilderness park with several rivers running through it: the Mullica River, Oswego River, Wading River, and Batsto River run through Pine Barrens as well as Wharton State Forest. The Batsto River flows by historic Batsto, a preserved colonial town, then flows into the Mullica at the Sweetwater Casino. Kayaking is also permitted at the Jackson Ave. beach in Atlantic City. No lifeguards are provided at Jackson Ave. This is a no bathing zone designated for Kayaking & Windsurfing only. There are no rentals at this location so you must bring your own equipment.
