Located at Brighton Park in Atlantic City, the Korean War Memorial is a moving tribute to the strength and courage of those who lost their lives fighting for their beliefs. As the 12-foot high statue of "The Mourning Soldier" looks down and remembers his fallen comrades with melancholy, the pain and anguish in the eyes of this larger-than-life figure is heartbreakingly apparent as he clutches the dogtags in his hand. Behind him, a group of determined soldiers appear from under a thick sheet of running water, one carrying a slain companion in his arms. Engraved on the back wall are the names of the 822 New Jersey soldiers who were either killed or missing in action. Dedicated in July 2000, this touching portrait of heroism serves as a solemn reminder of the veterans who gave their lives in the Korean War, and the bravery and determination of the human spirit.
