- 300,000 spectators will line the banks of the Charles River for the 47th Annual Head Of The Charles® Regatta on October 22nd & 23rd, 2011. Spectators will gather to watch more than 9,000 athletes from around the globe compete in 55 racing events during the World's largest rowing regatta. The 47th annual Head Of The Charles Regatta will bring athletes and spectators to a three-mile stretch of Boston's storied Charles River during the two-day race event.

Each year 500 people strip down into tiny bathing suits in near freezing weather and run around the Back Bay to raise money for local charities. The 12th Annual SS Charity Run will take place Saturday, December 10th, 2011. The SSRun registration is open to anyone and everyone that is at least 21 years of age. The run is limited, however, to the first 500 registrants.
The run will start and end at Lir Tavern at 903 Boylston Street, Boston. The course is an approximate 1 mile jog that departs from Lir and proceeds down Boylston Street to Berkeley Street. - View Event >

Join the DCR and The Friends of the Blue Hills for the Twenty First Annual First Day Hikes Event, taking place on Sunday, January 1st, 2012. They will start by enjoying free hot soup or hot chocolate and cookies around the fire at 12pm. Followed by FREE scenic 1 to 2 hour hikes for all ability levels led by DCR Park Rangers and FBH volunteers at 1pm. Dress warmly and wear sturdy hiking boots for all hikes. Traction recommended if there is snow and you plan on hiking in the hills.
