Enter the Christmas Tree Promenade off of Route 132 in Hyannis and you’ll be sure to see some of the most unusual architecture on the Cape— it’s not a lighthouse or historic mansion, but a 30-foot tall Victorian clock tower. If you catch it at the top of the hour, six figures emerge and the chiming sound of brass bells fills the shopping plaza. It is the Christmas Tree Shops carillon, a musical instrument consisting of numerous bells, struck to produce a melody. Don't worry; you won't hear Jingle Bells in July, the music and the clock tower characters change with each season.

Originating in Yarmouthport in 1970, the Christmas Tree Shops now has 70 locations in 18 states. On Cape Cod, you’ll find stores in Falmouth, Hyannis, Orleans, West Dennis, West Yarmouth and Sagamore. These original locations with their quaint exteriors, often made to resemble older buildings or barns, have become a must-see for traveling shoppers. Cape Cod bus tours have even made the shops a focal stopping point. The Sagamore location actually features a giant functioning windmill, nestled next to the Sagamore Bridge. You’ll find bargains available for more than just Christmas items, so don’t be surprised if in mid-December you already see shelves stocked with candy hearts, followed quickly by four-leaf clovers and Easter baskets!

Incredibly reduced prices on pillows, candles, small appliances, cookware, spices, coffees and teas, gardening tools, outdoor decorations, cosmetics, back-to-school supplies, party supplies and more keep shoppers coming back, with a little help from the catchy jingle, Don’t You Just Love A Bargain?, which every Cape Codder seems to know by heart. It is surely a place where you’ll walk out with more than you planned on; a little bit of something for everyone and every season.
