Snooty, exclusive, up-scale, and pretentious are words often associated with art galleries. It doesn't have to be that way, and Final Friday showcases that fact with the utmost ease. If you're looking to get out with friends or family, and have no desire to be part of a smugness-spreading contest, give Final Friday a chance.
The last Friday of every month ushers in artists, musicians, and their patrons to downtown Cincinnati for a night of revelry and artistic expression. Galleries, restaurants, bars, bookstores, and theatres from Vine Street to Main Street host the event in an admirably collaborative effort to promote the arts in Cincinnati. The event is organized by Enjoy the Arts, a group dedicated to cultivating artistic patronage in Cincinnati, and Final Friday is a realization of that vision. Visitors can casually stroll from venue to venue and listen to local musicians, get a bite to eat, admire some art, and possibly meet the actual artist.
Most of the Final Friday events aptly take place in the North Main Street district of Over-The-Rhine. As one of Cincinnati's oldest neighborhoods, many of the buildings in OTR are built in Italianate architecture, and have been renovated and retrofitted for the slew of small businesses that now occupy the neighborhood. The area has several galleries, coffee shops, clothing stores, and shops that make Final Friday an engrossing experience.
