Mainstrasse Village is known primarily for the bevy of bars and nightclubs that line Main Street in Covington. Looking past the revelry reveals a quaint, unique shopping experience fit for both late-night bar hoppers and families. A number of independent shops showcase a nearly overwhelming spectrum of goods ranging from whoopee cushions and wedding dresses, to rock candy and Gibson guitars. This authentic "Main St. USA" shopping experience is rarely found on either side of the Ohio River.
Stores like Julie's Inspiration Consignment Shoppe encompass what Mainstrasse is all about. Since 2005 this eclectic shop has been selling vintage clothing, jewelry, collectibles, and artwork as unique as the pink and black striped bench that sits right outside the store. A jaunt across the street leads you to MK's Tote Bags and Monogramming, offering personalized embroidery on items from beach bags to children's backpacks. If the kids come along, bring them to The Candy Bar (or send them over to gain some personal time if they start to get antsy). This vintage candy shop offers over 200 varieties of the sweet stuff ranging from old-school favorites like Sugar Babies to more unique choices like pickle flavored breath mints.
If you've become famished amidst your shopping hysteria, pop over to Zola's Pub and Grille for an interesting mix of bar fare and delicious handmade burgers. The self-titled Zola burger is sublime. The half-pound, Black Angus patty barely holds the load of bacon, sautéed mushrooms, grilled onions, capacollo ham and American cheese. For a touch of sophistication, try Chez Nora. The renowned crab cake entrée is a fitting complement to the jazz musicians performing Wednesday through Sunday.
And by all means, if you're in the mood for an adult beverage, finish the day off at Mainstrasse Village Pub for some classic pub ambiance and a refreshing assortment of beers.
