Far above the South Grand Avenue pavement in downtown Los Angeles towers an impressive stainless steel coated structure that rivals the finest concert halls in the world. Lillian Disney, former wife of visionary Walt Disney, made an initial donation in 1987 to build a world-class performance arts venue as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and a tribute to Walt Disney's unquestionable devotion to the arts.

Designed by legendary architect Frank Gehry, the 2,265-seat Walt Disney Concert Hall was the realization of Lillian Disney's dream. Opening in October of 2003 as the fourth hall of Los Angeles Music Center complex, the Walt Disney Concert Hall had what many consider one of the most successful grand concert hall openings in history. Soon after, the hall gained critical acclaim for its top-notch acoustics. Today, it is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

The richly decorated walls and ceiling of the grand concert hall are finished with Douglas fir, and the floor is laid with expensive strips of finished oak. The interior design of the large concert hall also includes a 6,125-pipe concert organ with an elaborate, terraced console typical of many French Romantic organs. In addition, the Walt Disney Concert Hall features several award-winning restaurants including celebrity chef Joachim Splichal's renowned Patina, the Concert Hall Café, the stylish Fifth Floor restaurant, and Kendall's Brasserie.

One hour audio and guided tours, with several breaks for performances, are also offered on most days. The Walt Disney Concert Hall has gained world-wide recognition for its recurring appearances in popular culture through blockbuster movies such as "Iron Man," "Get Smart," and, most recently, "The Soloist."
