You would not mistake Knott's Berry Farm for a farm today, unless you've been living in a cave for the past 40 years. The theme park grew out of Walter Knott's desire to entertain guests who were waiting in line for home-cooked chicken and boysenberry pie at the restaurant he and his wife Cordelia had started to make ends meet during the Depression. Initially the recreation of an old Western ghost town, Knott added a train ride, a pan-for-gold area, and boysenberry pie eating contests, developing what Knott called a "summer-long county fair".

By 1968, it was getting big and expensive enough that Knott fenced it and began to charge admission. A theme park was born. Over the years, several rides and attractions have expanded the park, and it is now 160 acres of world class rides, family shows, and one of a kind attractions, including a wooden roller coaster GhostRider Supreme Scream, and 30-stories up, 3 seconds down Xcelerator. Younger children can enjoy Camp Snoopy, home to the beloved PEANUTS gang.

Also on the property is a replica of Independence Hall and Knott's Soak City, USA. Independence Hall has received national kudos for its design which includes a replica of the Liberty Bell and the original "Star Spangled Banner," flag.
