Pa'ako Beach, otherwise known as Secret Cove, is a not-so-secret beach just south of Big Beach in Makena. It is probably labeled as secret because of its location between homes in Makena. To reach this sandy expanse, you have to find your way down a path, through a rock wall, and out onto the beach.

The exposed sand area is quite small and, due to the high volume of wedding traffic, you're in luck if you turn up and find you have the beach to yourself. While Pa'ako Beach is not great for swimming, the snorkeling is good, with clean water, good visibility, and a lot of tropical fish. There are two points of entry into the water, so watch out for rocks and coral. There are no lifeguards or facilities, and the only parking is on the street.

With excellent morning views of Molokini and Kaho'olawe, crystal clear water, and an idyllic tropical setting complete with lava rocks, Pa'ako Beach makes an ideal beach to get away to, especially if you don't mind appearing in a few wedding photos. Get there early in the day for the best conditions.

Directions:

Follow the signs into Makena. Take Makena Road past Big Beach and park on the side of the road. Find the break between the lava rock walls and you've found the secret spot.
