Along the beautiful coasts of Oahu's west shore lies the enticing region of Nanakuli. Nanakuli, literally interpreted to mean 'look at knee', allows visitors to choose from an array of summer recreational activities, including snorkeling, scuba, and skin diving.
Since the west coast is the driest region of Oahu, Nanakuli's beach waters are a great source of relief for parched travelers. In fact, the region is so dry that when travelers passed through long ago in search of water, the locals would try to act deaf and look away, hence the name, "look at knee." The locals often felt embarrassed that they had no water to share with the travelers. Apart from Nanakuli's dry climate, the region has exquisite beaches, with waters that emulate a Caribbean hue, their blues and greens expanding into the horizon. The three beaches here are Nanakuli, Ulehawa, and the Nanaikapono Beach Park. Of the three, Nanakuli Beach Park seems to attract more locals than tourists.
The Nanakuli coast is lined with vibrant green trees, with views of the mountainous regions above, and the Nanakuli Stream, which makes for great hiking. This town is the optimum place for a quiet, uninterrupted day at the beach. However travelers should note that during winter months, the tides can be rough and the beachfront a bit rocky.
The region is located right off the 93, allowing easy access to Nanakuli and the neighboring towns of Waianae and Makakilo City. Travelers could make a day visiting all the towns on Oahu's west coast.
