If you've never heard the Star Spangled Banner strummed on a ukulele, you are in for a treat as you enter the U.S. Army Museum of Hawai'i at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki. From ancient warrior battles to the war in Vietnam, the museum tells the military story of Hawai'i with the help of photographs, historical artifacts, sound effects, and much more.
The Army Museum is housed in what used to be Battery Randolph, built to defend against enemy attacks by sea. The former gun deck is now home to an actual Cobra helicopter that was used in Vietnam. Located on the second floor is the Gallery of Heroes exhibit, a peaceful, sunlit room where Hawai'i's military heroes are recognized.
Stop by the Museum Store and take home a unique piece of military memorabilia, or maybe a T-shirt or two. All proceeds go to supporting the development of the U.S. Army Museum of Hawai'i.
