Conveniently located near Waikiki Beach, the Honolulu Zoo offers an educational and fun experience for both children and adults. The zoo is an AZA accredited institution, and houses almost 1,000 different animals. The property is divided into different sections: birds, primates, reptiles and a petting zoo. There is even an African Savanna, with winding tree-lined pathways leading visitors to close encounters with zebras, crocodiles and more.
Of course, the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a and Nene Goose, the state fish and bird, are here, too. There are also several rest stops for animal lovers to just kick their heels up and relax. There's a snack bar for grabbing a bite to eat, or visitors can bring their own lunch and have a picnic while admiring the animals. And the Zootique Gift Shop is the perfect stop for all kinds of souvenirs.
The Honolulu Zoo also offers several activities for families to enjoy together, such as twilight tours, dinner safaris, star gazing, and even breakfast with a zookeeper. Children can volunteer to be junior zookeepers.
Potential visitors should visit the Honolulu Zoo website for detailed information on group reservations, planning a party, working, volunteering, or just to learn more about the wonderful creatures that reside there.
