To some, it's a tourist trap on steroids, while to others it's a treasure trove of souvenirs. Whether you like it or not, the International Market Place encompasses 125,000 square feet of Waikiki beach-side and offers Polynesia-inspired shopping, dining, and entertainment seven days a week.
Sprawling banyan trees and leaning palm trees provide shade for the 130 carts, shops, and artisan stands that flood this open-air bazaar. Haggle for the best prices on kukui nut leis, tiki carvings, colorful sarongs and aloha shirts, local artwork, Tahitian pearls, and surf wear. Visit the International Food Court and outer-lying eateries for a variety of "local kine grinds" and casual cuisine from China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan.
In the evening, the market features free entertainment such as Hawaiian traditional and contemporary music, hula, and other performances from throughout Polynesia.
