Philadelphia's gem Fairmount Park is the easiest, and also the best, place to go in town to enjoy birds in their natural habitat, and includes a range of migrant, resident and nesting species.
In spring and fall, you might see migrants such as the Bobolink, Scarlet Tanager, Gray-cheeked Thrush or Blackburnian Warbler. Some nesting species can be seen year-round, particularly crows, blue jays, starlings, house finches and house sparrows.
Another great birding location is the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, just one mile north of the airport. Tinicum's wetlands and fields attract waders, waterfowl, shorebirds, and a variety of other species.
