A large area of the city north of Center City and south of Olney-Oak Lane, North Philadelphia is often broken into Upper North and Lower North. In Upper North Philadelphia are the areas of Allegheny West, Franklinville, Glenwood, Hunting Park, and Nicetown-Tioga. The Lower North includes Brewerytown, Cabot, Fairhill, part of Fairmount, Francisville, Hartranft, Ludlow, North Central, part of Northern Liberties, Poplar, Sharswood, Spring Garden, South Lehigh, Stanton, Strawberry Mansion, Templetown, and Yorktown.
Much of the demographic is African American with the exception of the eastern side which is predominantly Hispanic, and the Fairmount-Spring Garden and southern Kensington areas, which are predominately white.
