Hopewell Furnace, founded in 1771 as an "iron plantation," a self-sufficient community reliant upon the production of iron, is now a celebrated historic area in Elverson, Pennsylvania. This significant park offers a Visitor Center that includes museum exhibits, a bookstore, and a helpful staff eager to answer questions. Echoes of the past are especially prominent during summer months, as the center features living history programs and demonstrations illustrating the hard work and struggles that people underwent at the iron plantation. One can also take a self-guided tour through the miles of trails and further learn about the plantation's courageous workers by exploring the many historic buildings.

An appreciation of the breathtaking nature surrounding Hopewell Furnace is a significant part of the experience. The historic apple orchards around the park offer a multitude of shaded oases for a picturesque picnic. You can also hike the many paths that stretch from Hopewell Furnace to the bordering French Creek State Park, or enjoy bird-watching or deer-watching here as well as within the surrounding state and local parks and sites.
