The Masonic Temple's imposing cathedral-like facade stands as a monument to human achievement and to the history of the Masons, one of the largest fraternities in the world. Completed in 1873, the Masonic Temple is located across the street from City Hall and features a period rooms based on Moorish, Gothic and Alhambra designs. Ascend the grand staircases alongside Masonic paintings and sculptures by William Rush, the father of American sculpture.
The Masonic Temple is the home of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, and includes the Museum of Pennsylvania and the Masonic Library. Among the museum's internationally-acclaimed treasures is George Washington's Masonic apron, while the library contains the most extensive collection of Masonic literature in America.
