A Longwood Gardens Christmas: November 24, 2011 - January 8, 2012: Half a million brilliant lights strung with over 39 miles of cord, lit trees that soar 75 feet, a 4.5-acre heated indoor Conservatory, featuring a giant Art Nouveau tapestry made from pink poinsettias and ferns, and the richest floral displays imaginable, including amaryllis, artemesia, begonias, cyclamen, hybrid lilies, kalanchoes, paperwhites, red berried plants and many more. Human Evolution invites visitors to explore the process of evolution and its profound impact on humans. The interactive exhibition features a variety of multi-media programs, as well as more than 100 touchable casts of fossil bones from primate and human evolutionary records. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the actual fossil evidence of human evolution, to see how physical anthropologists and other scientists work to interpret the evidence, and to witness the outcome of evolutionary processes in our everyday lives. Tours range from Center City locales, including Society Hill and Rittenhouse Square, to notable neighborhoods such as Fishtown, Girard Estate and Chestnut Hill, to suburban enclaves such as Haddonfield. There are also specialized themed tours such as the popular "Littlest Streets" and "Art Deco Philadelphia."

The 2011 Walking Tour season will also once again feature a tour for Jane's Walk USA, an annual commemoration of the birthday of the great urban thinker Jane Jacobs (1916-2006), by holding a brief 'birthday party' followed by a FREE guided walking tour of OLD CITY, on Saturday, May 7, 2pm, at the benches at the end of Elfreth's Alley on N. 2nd Street.

Tours are led by a lively group of experienced and enthusiastic volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds who share a passion for architecture, urban design and social history. Their passion and knowledge has enhanced understanding of the region's architectural heritage for thousands of participants and has received awards and accolades. Philadelphia magazine honored the walking tours with a 2008 "Best of Philly" Award, noting they are the "best reason to take a walk."
