Standing soberly beneath flags of the United States Armed Forces, a tall black slab of stone immortalizes the names of Oregon's Korean War veterans. Etched in white, each name stands as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice that helped to found and protect the state. For visitors with an interest in history, the Oregon Korean War Memorial is a moving salute to this country's heroes.
The Oregon Korean War Memorial is located on the northeast side of Willamette National Cemetery. It was dedicated on June 22, 1996 as one of three sites honoring Korean War veterans in Oregon. The names of 290 fallen soldiers are inscribed on either side of the central piece that commemorates the memorial with a large bronze plaque.
While some visitors may feel hesitant to visit a cemetery, the ambiance surrounding the memorial can easily dispel any reservations. With well tended lawns rolling right up to the sight and stone benches across from the wall of names, the Oregon Korean War Memorial offers a serene, inviting atmosphere.
