Celebrate Veterans Day in Portland

There are a handful of events right here in Oregon to help us celebrate our past and present veterans, from discounted museum admission to the 36th Annual Ross Hollywood District Veterans Day Parade.

On November 8th at 12pm, Veterans Convoy will travel on I-205 to honor all veterans along the highway named in their honor. The convoy forms at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Vancouver, Washington.

On November 11th at 9:45am, the 36th Annual Hollywood District Veterans Day Parade will travel between N.E. 40th and 48th Ave. and Sandy Blvd. The parade concludes with a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Flag Pole, N.E. 48th and Sandy Blvd. Covered seating will be available for seniors and those with disabilities. On November 11th, the Oregon Zoo is offering free admission for military veterans and active military. Just show your ID. The World Forestry Center will be free for military veterans, active military, and teachers from 10am to 5pm. The Portland Japanese Garden is free to everyone from 10am to 4pm. They're encouraging everyone to bring canned goods to donate to the for Oregon Food Bank.

Also on November 11th, head to the Pioneer Place Mall for H&M's grand opening starting at noon. The first 300 people in line will receive an H&M t-shirt and and a fashion pass (valued from $10 to $300). There will also be various prizes and giveaways. Come early because it's going to get crowded!

Military veterans and active duty service members will be able to eat for free at any Applebee's and Chili's across the U.S. on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010. All veterans will also be able to receive a free appetizer & drink at Outback Steakhouse and a free 6 inch sub at Subway.
