Flourishing in the midst of two historic communities, the Sellwood-Westmoreland neighborhood is filled with antique shops and retail stores. But there's much more to Sellwood than shopping. The area encompasses hiking paths, four public parks, a wildlife refuge, and an amusement center for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

Sellwood's identity springs from its emergent history. Dating from the 1850s, the two historical districts, originally independent competitors, united to become today's unique Portland neighborhood. Located five miles from downtown, the cities of Sellwood and Westmoreland sit on the east side of Portland accessible via the Sellwood Bridge.

Two distinct shopping communities host antiques stores, restaurants, retail shops, banks, holistic health services, florists, and bakeries. Formerly known exclusively for its antiques and collectibles stores, the Sellwood-Westmoreland neighborhood has evolved into a trendy retail and antiques shopping mecca.

The Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge welcomes hawks, quail, and mallards along with the requisite bird watchers. The official bird of the City of Portland, the blue heron, is easy to spot here.

Enjoy a movie the way Portlanders used to—without the ubiquitous previews and commercials. The Moreland Theatre, the last of its kind in Portland, proudly screens first run and art films in Sellwood.

Ongoing community events welcome residents and visitors to meet and greets, open houses, tours, and special sales. Beginning in mid-May and through mid-October, a neighborhood Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday. The offerings range from local produce and cheeses, to prepared food, baked goods, bread, meat, and specialty items.

A summer highlight for residents is Sundae on the Park at Sellwood Riverfront Park. Held annually on the first Sunday in August, the neighborhood association stages this event where you can buy ice cream sundaes for a quarter. Live entertainment is provided along with historic displays and booths. And the best part about it? Well, weather records say the first weekend in August is Portland's sunniest weekend of the year.

Walking, shopping, dining, living….Sellwood is a neighborhood experience you won't want to miss.
