At the broad tip of the peninsula embracing the San Diego Harbor, Coronado (the "Crowned One") enjoys the ambiance of both a 100-year old small-town neighborhood and the majesty of nature's greatest beaches and finest weather. Incorporated in 1890, Coronado's tree-lined streets are graced with historic Victorian homes as well as California bungalows.
With its strategic location at the entrance to the bay and just a mile from Downtown San Diego, the U.S. Navy established a presence here early on. The city is also the home of the famous Hotel Del Coronado, a national historic landmark that opened to much fanfare in 1888. Known as just "The Del", the hotel has hosted filmmakers, presidents and royalty.
