One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. The worms aren’t happy about it, but there are plenty of (colorful) fish in this lake. The reservoir has Florida-strain largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, black crappie and (lots of) stocked trout, and for the freshest fry-up in town, bring in your barbeque and make a day of it. In addition to fishing, activities around the lake include bicycling, jogging, walking, rollerblading, and picnicking. Miles of scenic trails are waiting to be explored, and a (slightly steep and rigorous) trail to the top of Cowels Mountain leads to the highest point of the city. The pay off is a sweeping 360-degree panorama of San Diego, and an eagle-eye view of all the fish in the lake.
Rowboats, motorboats, pedal boats and canoes are available for rent hourly or daily on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Private boaters can take advantage of the new two-lane launch ramp and dock. If you are looking to camp, try Lake Jennings, Lake Cuyamaca, or Lake Poway.
