A common dream among little boys is to grow up and become a firefighter. It comes as no surprise, then, that the San Diego Firehouse Museum allows children of all ages to indulge their youthful firefighting fantasies.

Observe items from all over the world and trace the evolution of firefighting from the hand-pulled steam engines of the 1800s to today's technology and techniques. From buckets to fire engines, all things firefighting-related are included.

This compact museum honors all who have dedicated their careers and lives to fighting fires. From fire marshals to alarm dispatchers to battalion members, the Firehouse Museum honors each individual in this exciting and dangerous line of work. There is even a corner dedicated to the FDNY firefighters that answered the call for help on 9/11, many of whom sacrificed their lives while doing their jobs.

An afternoon at the Firehouse Museum gives you an opportunity to pay homage to the brave souls that protect us from the very real havoc that fires can wreak. This is one trip that any little boy – whether an adult's inner child or an actual kid – will thank you for.
