For sports memorabilia, this is absolutely the place. The San Diego Hall of Champions Sports Museum in Balboa Park evolved from the Breitbard Athletic Foundation, founded by Bob Breitbard in 1946 to honor San Diego athletes. Breitbard’s garage full of sports memorabilia was the original foundation for this one-of-a-kind museum, the largest multi-sport institution in the nation, with three levels of memorabilia and 68,000 square feet.
The museum features the achievements of athletes and sports heroes everywhere, although San Diegans get special attention. The scope of the Hall’s exhibits covers sports from high school to college to professional, and caters to a wide variety of interests, from the traditional sports of baseball and football to the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame, Surfing Legends, Action Sports and Disabled Athletes.
In addition, the museum has a state-of-the-art theater and an interactive media center that gives visitors a hands-on opportunity to try out a variety of sports.
