Desert Garden

Desert Garden
Desert Garden

The lush Desert Garden is a treat for the eyes and is open every day of the year. Located in the historic Balboa Park near the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden and just north of the Park Boulevard pedestrian bridge, the Desert Garden is a vibrant oasis of succulent blooms and gorgeous cacti.

Featured plants include cacti, aloe and agave, which is perhaps better known for its starring role in tequila. While the silhouettes of cacti are the most familiar of all of the various succulents, all are fascinating in their own ways, and have a beauty all their own. Exploring and examining the garden's inhabitants will reveal a colorful and lively population that thrives in some of the world's least hospitable environments.

While peak bloom occurs from January to March, the succulents are captivating throughout the year, and the Desert Garden has an especially astonishing view at sunset.
