Ballast Point’s ubiquitous and popular ales can be ordered in restaurants and bars all over San Diego as well as at their two breweries. Beginning production in 1996 when brewery space and facilities were added to Home Brew Mart’s Linda Vista storefront, Ballast Point opened its second brewery in the Scripps Ranch neighborhood in 2005.
Both locations are open for tours and have tasting rooms where your taste buds can delight in exploring Ballast Point’s award-winning ales. Taste samples, fill a growler (a gallon-sized glass jug) and take one home, or even rent a keg after paying a small deposit.
Ballast Point embodies the spirit of San Diego. The company’s name refers to the Point Loma location where European settlers first set foot in California, in the gateway to San Diego Harbor. Ballast Point’s mission is to create handcrafted traditional ales so fresh that they could only be locally made. This can be seen as an extension of Home Brew Mart’s aim to teach customers how to brew high-quality beer at home.
With catchy names like “Yellowtail Pale Ale,” “Wahoo Wheat Beer” and “Big Eye IPA,” Ballast Point beers are almost as much fun to order as they are to drink.
