Green Flash Brewery is the plucky newcomer to San Diego County’s burgeoning microbrewery scene, and is attacking the city’s brewscape with gumption. The nascent brewery has been operating since 2002, and has already captured scads of awards for its ales. Green Flash’s march toward critical acclaim peaked in 2008 when its West Coast IPA won the top honor in the National IPA Championship.
A proud green banner points from the rafters in the tasting room down toward the bottling line, displaying this achievement as you sip on the brews. Nothing stands as a better testament to Green Flash’s accolades than the three new fermentors recently installed by brewmaster Chuck Silva.
The tasting room has a certain utilitarian allure, due to the fact that it is actually the working hub of the brewery’s operations. However, Green Flash earmarks a few hours on Fridays and Saturdays for the ambassadorial purpose of public tastings. Unlike its evanescent namesake, Green Flash has secured a firm bridgehead in the world of brewing, and is most definitely a rising star.
