Jack's also has two other restaurants in the building: Jack's Dining Room, which was recently given a 4 STAR RATING by The 2008 MOBIL TRAVEL GUIDE (there are only two other San Diego restaurants with 4 Stars), and Jack's Ocean Room (Steak Seafood and Sushi). Jack's was voted San Diego's Best New Restaurant and is The Winner of Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence.

  • Description: Chef-owner Alessandro Carollo was born in Palermo. When he was young, his grandfather passed on the family recipes that the Carollo family had enjoyed for generations. At only 14 years old, Alessandro entered Culinary school and began his career in traditional Sicilian restaurants like Francu u Piscature in Porticello and The Grand Hotel in Florence. Despite the hard-won reputation he earned in Italy, his real dream was to cook in America. Upon landing in San Diego, he first worked at Tuscany, La Costa, then became Executive Chef at Il Fornaio. Today, Chef Carollo presides over his own Venice Ristorante in La Jolla. Featuring the food of his ancestors, Venice also boasts Southern California's largest wine cellar, with over 4,000 bottles, including an amazing selection of Italian wines at every price range.

Baking, churning, curing, pickling, aging, infusing and rolling everything in house and working exclusively with local organic farms, this inspired restaurant belongs in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland. Formerly Fresh-er restaurant, the space went a total overhaul this January and now boasts a 30 person bar and cocktail lounge, private dining room and some serious food and wine in a simple, fun and casual atmosphere. Also new is their mid afternoon and late night happy hour, daily from 3-5 and 10-Last Call on Fridays & Saturdays.
