The Lyon Street Stairs are located on (what else?) Lyon Street, below Broadway and above Green Street. These exceptionally steep stairs preside over the lowest point of Pacific Heights, the highest point of Cow Hollow, and on the very edge of the Presidio. If currently unfamiliar with these San Francisco neighborhoods, you certainly won't be once you've realized the serenity hidden amongst Lyon Street's billowing trees and aristocratic mansions.
Considered by locals to be one of the best outdoor workouts available, these vertical steps run for nearly two blocks top to bottom. A few trips up and back leave even the most fit a bit sore the day following. The Lyon Street Stairs, however, are not just for exercise. They offer supreme panoramic views of the Bay, the Palace of Fine Arts, and they also conveniently abut the striking mansions of Pacific Heights.
Whether you use these steps as a StairMaster or not, the Lyon Street Stairs provide a very special, outdoor San Francisco treat.
