Except for those that live here, it might come as a surprise that San Francisco is a great beach destination. The leaves-something-to-be-desired weather might have something to do with that, but the beaches are one of San Francisco's best-kept secrets. Ocean Beach is a great destination for visitors wanting to be humbled by the majesty of the Pacific while Baker Beach is popular for lounging and soaking up the sun (when it comes out). Further afield, Stinson Beach and Drakes Beach are great day trips that display the grandeur of the Californian Coast. Fog and cool temperatures are a fact of life here in the Bay Area, but there are just as many warm sunny days as foggy ones, so get out and enjoy San Francisco's awesome beaches.
