Although the Sunset District is famously covered in a blanket of fog, the Stonestown Galleria lies at its heart and can't be missed. Due to its convenience and assortment of stores, it attracts locals from all over the area, especially from nearby schools. After opening in 1952, and undergoing a major renovation in 1987, Stonestown has expanded to host more stores, a food court, and an underground parking garage. It currently features a Borders, Macy's, Nordstrom, and Trader Joe's, in addition to a theater that shows independent-style movies. The two levels are packed with stores like American Eagle Outfitters, Apple retailer, Champs Sports, Gap, Hot Topic, White House Black Market, and much more. Remember to stay aware of where your feet take you. Connected by bridges and crossing through courts, each floor actually forms the shape of a plus sign.

Once your soles tire from walking from store to store, give them a rest, and allow your mouth to do some work. A wealth of dining options awaits you. Indulge at Godiva Chocolatier, receive an energy boost from Starbucks, sip clam chowder from a Boudin Bakery bread bowl, or munch on fries from Great Steak and Potato Co. If you're in the mood for a full course meal, Chevy's and Olive Garden are neighbors, right next to the mall's main entrance. Since both are often overflowing with people seeking Mexican or Italian fare, make sure to call ahead for a reservation, or you'll be waiting for up to an hour.

Stonestown is famous for throwing events outside and inside the center. You can find a farmer's market in the parking lot near Macy's on Sunday mornings. A majestic Christmas tree encompasses the ground floor's center court from mid-November until early January. Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are present during their respective seasons and ready to pose for portraits. The center even has its own fitness program, encouraging mall walkers to join Around The Town, a group that meets every Thursday morning.
