The world-renowned Smithsonian Institution is truly the largest museum complex and research organization in the world. Comprised of 17 museums and the National Zoo in D.C., as well as two more museums in New York, the Smithsonian exemplifies humankind’s search for reason and meaning through the arts, history, science, and technology.
The best way to begin to explore the Smithsonian is to visit its Information Center in the Institution's first building on the National Mall, popularly known as the Castle, which is open daily 8:30am-5:30pm, and is accessible from either Jefferson Drive on the north or through the Enid A. Haupt Garden on the south.
