- Description: This prestigious tournament founded in 1969 was one of the first open professional tennis tournaments held in the United States, and about to become more so. Starting in 2009, the tournament will become a '500' level Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) event, offering $1.3 million In prize money. This means that it is now one of the top 20 men's tournaments in the world. In addition, the Legg Mason Tennis Classic is part of the Olympus U.S. Open Series made up of nine summer tournaments in North America. The tournament is at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center, a 7,500 seat facility which features 31 air-conditioned court-side suites. Held in beautiful Rock Creek Park, a division of the National Park Service.
