  • Noma Summer Screen 2013Now in its sixth year, NoMa Summer Screen will run on Wednesday evenings May 22 to August 21 on the Loree Grand Field at Second and L Streets, NE. The event starts at 7 p.m. with music, giveaways, family fun, food vendors and picnicking. Films start at dark. Subtitles are provided for all films. Children and friendly dogs are welcome. Last summer’s theme, Is 2012: The End of the World, spoofed doomsday prophesies marking the end of the Mayan calendar, and featured blockbuster films that dealt with world-ending scenarios. All movies were shown at the Loree Grand field, at 2nd & L Sts. NE.

  • Second Annual Guacamole FestivalRichard Sandoval's vibrant Taqueria and Tequileria, El Centro D.F., introduces its Second Annual Guacamole Festival, the second of four quarterly festivals celebrating Mexican cooking. The Guacamole Festival will run May 1st through June 30th and will feature different flavors that highlight various regional experiences. Dating back to Aztec times, the traditional Mexican dip was comprised of avocado, onion, chilies, fresh tomato, and salt. Over time, regions of Mexico began mixing local ingredients, creating thousands of variations.

  • Smithsonian Folklife FestivalVisitors to the 47th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival can learn about the country of Hungary, endangered languages and the history of aesthetics of African Americans. The Festival will be held Wednesday, June 26, through Sunday, June 30, and Wednesday, July 3, through Sunday, July 7, outdoors on the National Mall between Seventh and 14th streets. Admission is free. Festival hours are from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day, with such special evening events as concerts and dance parties beginning at 6 p.m.
