Season's Greenings at the US Botanic Garden: November 24, 2011 - January 2, 2012

Posted in: Holiday, Kids and Family, Upcoming Events

Brighten the long dark nights of winter with Season's Greenings at the US Botanic Garden from November 24th, 2011 through January 2nd, 2012. The winter solstice and holiday season is a culturally important time celebrated for thousands of years. Plants have always played an important role, from the fragrant conifers and other evergreens used for wreaths and holiday trees to mistletoe, poinsettia and other holiday blooming plants.

The Botanic Gardens' famous Garden Railway will be on display in the East Gallery, and will feature imaginative buildings created with plant materials. Explore "Who Lives Here?" and see all kinds of delightful dwellings, from an opossum house and a critter condo to model American presidential homes. Don't miss this popular exhibit, including one of the largest indoor decorated trees in Washington, D.C., and the capital's landmark buildings in the Garden Court.

You'll see a "living history" of poinsettias in colors ranging from classic reds to pink, speckled and white. Each year, the U.S. Botanic Garden has expanded the displays to give Washington-area residents and visitors one of the region's most delightful holiday exhibitions.
