The Fridge Presents Fresh Produce: February 4th-27th
Posted in: Upcoming Events
The Fridge DC art gallery and performance space invites guests to enjoy a month long festival of performance arts appropriately entitled Fresh Produce. In this festival, guests will be introduced to the new performance artists of DC through performances and workshops. Music, magic, film, and dance will be among the exciting art forms on display throughout this event. Even the act of eating is turned into a participatory performance art as music and eating combine for an intriguing look at the act of dining.
The Fresh Produce Festival has been inspired by a Fridge staple, the Sunday Circus. In this monthly event, performers from across the city as well as special guests are given the opportunity to share their artistic performances with the community. Performers of diverse talents help to show that art is not easily defined or categorized. Artists rely upon such fascinating influences as audience participation and the environment to shape their performances for a fresh and lively artistic expression. This event, which is usually relegated to one day each month, has been extended to a month long celebration of the performing arts in their manifold incarnations.
The festival's schedule is as varied as its performers, with near daily offerings throughout the month. Events can be moving, bizarre, and frightening, such as EMP Collective's unfortunate play "…And You're Just Not Good Enough" which toys with the traumas of low self-esteem, or the peculiar carnival style talents of performers in this month's Sunday Circus. Events can also be relaxing like the ukulele duo "Sweater Set Love Lessons" who present both concerts and lessons on playing love songs on the ukulele.
The festival will go out with musical bang with local dancers and DJs providing atmosphere and entertainment at the Gaia Closing Event. This event brings together artists of different cultures from across the city to share their art with the community. A full listing of events, prices, and times is available on the Fridge website.
