  • Description: Known as the longest running gay dance club in Washington DC, Apex has been serving Washington DC's GBLT community for over 25 years. Apex's two levels has 7 bars, great music such as the top 40, house, electro house and hip hop and a chill lounge. Thursdays are college night so it's free if you have a college ID. Drinks are relatively inexpensive (about $6), but unfortunately, the bar is cash only.

  • Be Bar

  • Description: Be Bar's modo is that they aren't just 'another flashy overpriced sit-back-and-pose place, nor are we just a monochrome nightclub. We strive to boast a balanced clientele of locals, tourists and specifically to become 'the destination in DC nightlife.' Be Bar offers a cool haven in one of the worlds most vibrant cities, offering an intimate lively setting, relaxing lounge, theme nights, as well as a live DJ and dance space. Be Bar even has comfy couches to vedge out. Martinis are half off until 9 PM. Try the following flavors: Gummy Bear, Tropical Sorbet, and Key Lime. And watch out for bingo night, you'll get all your favorite drinks for just $2. Check with the club for times.

  • Description: One of the local favorites in DC, Cobalt has both a bar (first floor) and a club (second floor). The music is great, and depending on the night you'll find it's a mix of retro, trance, hip hop, and other forms of electronica. Thursday nights you can catch the 'biggest package' contest. The drinks are moderatly priced with a pretty decent happy hour.

  • Freddie's Beach Bar and Restaurant

  • Description: Freddie's Beach Bar and Restaurant is an all around fun place that provides something for everyone (gay or straight). Freddie's Beach Bar's happy hour (or crazy hour as they call it) is from 4-7pm daily. Included are brand name drinks and $5 for a half a pound of shrimp. Freddie's always has something going on. Some of their events include: Sunday champagne brunch, Sunday night drag shows (9pm), Monday movie night beginning at 8:00 pm (different movie each week) followed by karaoke. 1/2 riced appetizers all night. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: Come sing your heart out with karaoke 9:00 pm - 1:00 am, Wednesday is drag bingo night with $5 burgers, and Saturday is karaoke special events.

  • Description: Probably the trendiest gay bar in Washington, Halo is a Manhattan kind of bar placed in DC. Halo's drinks are well made, strong, and reasonably priced (especially at happy hour).

  • JR's Bar & Grill

  • Description: A very laid back kind of bar, JR's Bar and Grill is perfect for those days you just want to hang out in a t-shirt and flip flops. It definitely has a more neighborhood feel than a lot of DC gay bars. Monday Night is Show-tunes where they show clips from stage and movie musicals on all the screens. Drinks are reasonably priced (they have a different special every night, from $2 drafts, $3 pints, $3 rail vodka and $5 Redbull vodkas, and on Sundays they have $2 Sky and $2 Coors Lite bottles all day.

  • Phase 1

  • Description: Phase 1 labels themselves as '...the oldest lesbian bar in the country.' Phase 1 is the only lesbian bar in DC, and is the 'it' place. They have something for everyone, from dance music to pool tables to strong drinks.

  • Remingtons

  • Description: Remingtons is the only gay cowboy bar in the DC area. Remingtons has over 6,000 square feet of dancing room, 2 levels and 4 bars. They're also known for the 'best karaoke' in DC by locals. The staff is friendly, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is fun! Oh, and they also offer line dancing lessons.

  • Description: Town Danceboutique is a two level dance club featuring house and hip hop music. Known for strong drinks and great bartenders, Town Danceboutique is a great place to dance until 4am! Since it is a nightcluub, expect the usual covers ($10-12) and relatively expensive drinks.
